ENS
Early Neurological Stimulation
At BudNat Aussies kennel, we place great emphasis on consciously and gently supporting the nervous system of our puppies from their very first days of life. An important part of this is the Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) program, which is used by breeders worldwide.
ENS is an early neurological stimulation program that we do with puppies between 3 and 16 days old.
No tests, no grades, no rankings, just a series of short, gentle exercises lasting a few seconds that help the nervous system mature and develop adaptability.
Once a day, in a calm environment, we perform the same basic exercises with every puppy:
gentle touch between the soles of the feet • holding the head up for a short time • holding the head down for a short time • lying on the back • short temperature stimulus
Each exercise lasts only 5–10 seconds and is performed exclusively on healthy puppies, with the utmost respect for the mother.
The goal of ENS is for kids to:
adapt more easily to new situations • show more balanced stress responses • explore the world with greater confidence • start out with a more stable nervous system
It is important to emphasize that the ENS does not determine what kind of dog a puppy will become as an adult, but it supports natural development and provides us with a valuable basis for observation, which we will evaluate in sync with the Volhard test.
During the ENS period, we observe the puppies' reactions, adaptation, and changes on a daily basis. These observations are not scores, but rather trends that we interpret later, together with the 6-7 week temperament Volhard test. This helps us to:
get to know the nature of each puppy better • recommend a companion responsibly, taking into account the needs of both the puppy and the family
On our site, ENS means:
The puppies start their lives with care and attention • Each puppy receives individual attention from the very first days • Owners receive honest, thoughtful feedback rather than "test results"
For us, ENS is not a requirement, but an additional tool that allows us to support the puppies and their future families even more responsibly.
